Discovered
by two modelling scouts in Asmara, Rahwa Afeworki never imagined
herself in front of the camera. Now she’s a sought after and versatile
print, video and runway model whose baby face and exotic looks have
drawn attention from photographers around the world. She’s walked the
catwalk at fashion shows, for clothing designers, added her talent to
video shoots, and appeared in magazine look books, international and local newspapers and catalogs.
Of Tigrinya descent, Rahwa is an Eritrean girl with an international background. Born in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia and raised in Asmara, Eritrea, As the youngest of five , Rahwa has always been the most ambitious in her close-knit family. “My parents were always there for me, and I had the greatest childhood any child would wish to have. My mother is my biggest influence and my inspiration in life. I learned to be a strong person and fighter from her,” she says.
Rahwa was awarded the best model on her first contest in 2003 and 2004 consecutively which was held in Asmara Intercontinental Hotel. She won the first in youth festival show in 2007. In 2008 Rahwa stood 2nd in the contest titled as miss ” Face of Eritrea”. In the year 2011 she placed among the top 10 semifinalists and end up in 5th place after the competition of miss of Eritrea. The doors finally opened for her in the month of January were she worn the title of Miss new Year Eritrea (Miss Eritrea) due to this victory she became Eritrea's representative in the Miss East Africa in 2012 which was held in Tanzania , where she was placed among top 10 and she won Ambassador Award.
She was a candidate at the Finale Miss Afrique Caraibes Pacifique and Miss University Africa. Known for her kind heart and shining smile, Rahwa stays fit by Salsa dancing. She’s also interested in designing and Painting. She is signed in with Kat Models in Uganda (http://facebook.com/katmodels). She takes each modelling experience as a challenge to make the most of every opportunity.
“I want to tell the world there’s more than meets the eye to girly girls like me from Eritrea and the world. There was a time I thought maybe someday I could work in the fashion industry, but never could I imagine myself in front of the camera given the background of my country.” she says.
Her goals as a model are to have her face become recognized worldwide, to act as an inspiration for others, to bring joy to people and fans, to encourage others to embrace their inner beauty, and to express her gifts by showcasing talented fashion designers.
